Just like Butch and Sundance, we made it to Bolivia! After an 18 hour travel day, we are in Santa Cruz. This is the fourth consecutive year that Montrose has been able to partner with La Luz Divina Church (The Divine Light) in our work and witness mission trip. It has been amazing to see all these relationships pick back up with old faces and new. This might be the year when not so little Elias and not so little Juan David legitimately beat us in "super" checkers! Over the next 10 days we hope to complete what has been a four-year project to build a parsonage for Pastor Walter and his family. We have literally come alongside and built this building from the ground up.
This year we have 16 folks from Montrose serving with us, and it is an amazing crew that God has brought together. When we arrived late Saturday night we were met at the airport by Pastor Walter and Pastor Hugo and a cast of thousands! More like 50, but it sure felt like the entire city. They were fired up and their usual joyous selves.
Speaking of joy, in Philippians Paul writes to the church and tells them to, "rejoice always, I'll say it again, rejoice." In fact, he mentions the words joy or rejoice some 16 times in the letter. When you visit the congregation of La Luz Divina the first thing you notice is their true joy in Christ. They're living out that call in Philippians and it is infectious.
Sunday we will join La Luz Divina for church in the morning, explore a bit of the city, and then come back for a special anniversary/get to know you service in the evening! This is always a welcome tradition with fun and games. These next 10 days are going to be amazing and we're here to serve. Thank you for your continued support and prayers! Your generosity and commitment to mission enables the church to live out the call to be active participants in the Kingdom of God on Earth. We hope to have various team members stories in the days to come so please check back.
