Advent Day 2: Beautiful Feet
Today's Reading: Isaiah 52:7-9
Have you ever thanked God for your feet? I haven’t either. My wife says that I have really funny looking feet. Feet are an odd but extraordinary part of our bodies. They help us balance and stand. They help us get from place to place. They are an essential part of many things we do on a daily basis.
The prophet speaks about feet in Isaiah 52:7.
How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
It’s not by accident that feet are referenced here. In fact, there are references to feet, explicitly or implied, all throughout Scripture. We are called to stand, walk, and follow. In other moments we slip, stumble, and get stuck - yet through it all, God is guiding our steps.
The word feet implies action. The prophet states that the feet are beautiful because they bring and proclaim peace, good tidings, and good news. They are active agents of peace and they bring the good news of Christ.
During this holiday season, Jesus invites us to not only know about His peace and good news, but to live it out through our actions.
I invite you to think of some ways that you can bring the peace and good news of Christ into your relationships this advent season. Can you reach out to a friend in need? Or serve a meal to a family that’s struggling? How about visiting an elderly person who is lonely? There is so much we can do this season to be ambassadors of the peace and good news of Christ.
This mission can’t be accomplished on our own, but there is comfort in knowing our “God reigns!” and is Immanuel, God with us, as we extend peace and good news to others this advent season.
